SCAM

It is a scam. UPS bills duties and customs to an account, to the shipper or the receiver, and settles them through its own systems. It does not text a stranger a payment link for $1.95. The tiny fee is not the point; the card number you type to pay it is.

How to spot the UPS scam

  • The fee is small and oddly precise. Under a few dollars is chosen so the amount feels too trivial to query, which is exactly why it works.
  • The link is a lookalike, ups-reschedule-sv.com and its cousins. The real site is ups.com and nothing longer.
  • Customs and duties do not arrive by text to a random number. They are billed to an account, and a genuine charge is visible when you look up the tracking number yourself.
  • The tracking number cannot be matched to anything you ordered, or fails when typed into ups.com.
  • It leans on a package being held or a delivery having failed, so the emotion is inconvenience rather than suspicion.
  • You are not expecting a UPS delivery at all.

What to do now

  1. Do not tap the link and do not respond. UPS's own advice for a suspicious text, call or email is not to respond to it.
  2. Take the tracking number from your original order confirmation and enter it yourself at ups.com.
  3. Forward the message to 7726 (SPAM) so your carrier can act on the sender, then report it through the UPS fraud page and delete it.
  4. If you entered card details, call your bank, dispute the charge and freeze the card before the number is resold.
