Is the Netflix 'account on hold' email a scam?

Scam, and Netflix draws the line in one sentence: it will never ask you to share your personal information in a text or email. So a message asking you to re-enter payment details to restore your account has already stepped outside what Netflix does, whatever the branding looks like.
How to spot the Netflix scam
- It asks for personal or payment information by email or text. Netflix states it never does this.
- The link is not netflix.com. Lookalikes lean on words like billing, account or update in front of a domain that is not theirs.
- The account is said to be on hold, suspended, or about to be cancelled over a failed payment. Real billing problems appear in your account, not only in your inbox.
- The greeting is impersonal, or the plan and renewal date do not match what you actually pay for.
- It asks for a full card number, CVV, or your bank login. Netflix never needs your bank login at all.
- There is a deadline of hours before the account is closed permanently.
- You do not even hold a Netflix subscription, which is common: these go out in bulk.
What to do now
- Do not tap the link. Open the Netflix app or type netflix.com and check Account and Billing.
- Any genuine payment problem is visible and fixable there, from a card you enter yourself on a page you opened.
- Forward the message to phishing@netflix.com, which is the address Netflix publishes, then delete it.
- If you entered card details, call your bank, dispute unfamiliar charges and freeze the card.
- If you reused that password anywhere else, change it there too, since the value of a stolen streaming login is mostly that it opens other doors.
- Sign out of all devices from Account settings if you think anyone else is in.
