Scammer. Cash App does not resolve account problems in social media DMs, and the account that answered your complaint found you precisely because you complained in public. Cash App publishes exactly which accounts are its own, which is what makes this one checkable in seconds rather than a matter of instinct.
How to spot the Cash App scam
- They replied to a public complaint and moved you to DMs. Being found this fast is the tell: nobody official is monitoring your mentions.
- The handle is not one Cash App lists. Its official accounts are @CashApp on Instagram, X and TikTok, @CashSupport on X, u/CashAppAndi on Reddit and SquareCash on Facebook. Anything else, however plausible, is not them.
- They ask for your sign-in code. Cash App states representatives never ask for your password, PIN, full card number or sign-in code, and that code alone is enough to take the account.
- They want you to install remote-access software so they can 'verify' something. No payment app asks for control of your device.
- They ask for a small 'test' transaction. Cash App says it will never ask you to do that, by phone, social media or any other means.
- The urgency and the emoji do the work that credentials normally would. A senior specialist title in a display name costs nothing to type.
What to do now
- Stop replying and do not send a code, a card number or a payment.
- Report the profile for impersonation on the platform, and screenshot the exchange first so the report has something to act on.
- Take any real issue to the app itself or cash.app/help. The only phone line is 1 (800) 969-1940, open 8 AM to 9:30 PM ET.
- If you installed anything at their request, remove it, and check the linked bank account from a different device.
- If you shared a code, change your PIN, sign out of other devices, and turn on Security Lock.
- If money left, report the unauthorized transfer in-app and keep the reference; the CFPB's January 2025 order obliges Block to investigate and pay redress where owed.
