How to spot this scam

• An age check that wants the full card number, not a birthdate. The fine print flips that card into partner-site trials that convert to monthly billing within days.
• The sob story is a paste. 'My friend had a scary date, so I verify everyone now' lands word for word from profile after profile.
• The domain is disposable, random letters glued to 'datecheck' or 'securemeet'. Badge sites burn and replace names once complaints pile up.
• Signal first, badge second, no actual plan to meet. Real caution asks for a two-minute video call, not a card.

What to do now

1. Counter with a 30-second video call. A nervous real person takes it. The bot repeats the badge script or unmatches.
2. Card already entered? Pull the statement and look for bland merchant descriptors you don't recognize. None will say dating.
3. Search each descriptor to find its cancel page, these sites cancel fast to head off chargebacks. Then dispute anything already billed as a deceptive recurring charge.
4. Ask the bank to block those merchants, not just reissue the card. Networks forward replacement numbers to recurring billers, so new plastic alone won't stop the rebills.
