# Domain age checker

Enter a domain or paste any link to see when the site was registered, when it expires, and whether it imitates a brand.

Free at https://bewary.app/check/domain-age, no signup: 10 checks a day. Updated 2026-10-23.

## How to read a website's age

| Age | What it means |
|---|---|
| Under 30 days | Brand new. Many scam sites are this young, and so is every new business. Bewary raises the risk, but age alone never makes a site suspicious. |
| 30 to 90 days | Recently registered. Still new enough to raise the risk a little. |
| 90 days to a year | Some history. Counts a little in the site's favour. |
| Over a year | Established. Counts strongly in its favour, though a domain on the scam list is a scam at any age. |
| A shared platform | Anyone can publish on vercel.app, github.io or sites.google.com. The platform's age says nothing about the page, so Bewary ignores it. |
| No date | Some registries, such as Germany's .de, publish no registration date. A missing date counts neither for nor against the site. |

## Check domain age in your app

GET https://api.bewary.app/v1/domain/{host}. It costs 1 credit, a free key gets 1,000 credits a month, and the MCP tool lookup_domain returns the same answer. Docs: https://bewary.app/docs/domain.md

curl:

```bash
curl "https://api.bewary.app/v1/domain/chase.com"
```

Python:

```python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.bewary.app/v1/domain/chase.com", timeout=10)
result = r.json()
print(result["verdict"], result["p_scam"], result["reason_codes"])
```

JavaScript:

```javascript
const res = await fetch("https://api.bewary.app/v1/domain/chase.com")
const result = await res.json()
console.log(result.verdict, result.p_scam, result.reason_codes)
```

## Questions

### How do I check how old a website is?

Enter its domain above, or paste any link from the site. Bewary reads the registration date from the public registry record (RDAP) and shows the age in years, months and days, with the expiry date and the registrar.

### Is a new website a scam?

Not on its own. Many scam sites are only days or weeks old, but every new business starts the same way. Take care with a site under 30 days old when it also asks for a payment or a login, or when its name imitates a brand.

### Why does a domain show no registration date?

Some registries do not publish one through RDAP, the public registration service. Germany's .de is one of them. Bewary then shows the age as unknown, which counts neither for nor against the site.

### Is domain age the same as website age?

Not always. The date is when the current registration began, so a domain that lapsed and was registered again starts over. The API's archive.captured_before_registration shows whether the web archive saw the site before that date.

### What does the expiry date tell me?

When the current registration ends unless the owner renews it. Some owners pay years ahead: bbc.co.uk is registered until 2034. A date a few months away is not a warning sign on its own, because an owner can renew at any time.
